A Major League baseball star has been ordered to cover up his tattoos because of claims they're distracting the opposition.

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Justin Miller will have to wear long sleeves from now on, following suggestions that rival hitters are miscuing their shots because of the distinctive artwork.

More than half of Miller's body is covered in tattoos, many of them in bright colours, although there are no visible designs on the right arm he uses to pitch with, says BBC Sport Online.

Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca said: "Umpire supervisor Jim McKean came in the other day and said that someone had complained about Justin's tattoos.

"All they have done is ask that he wear sleeves when he pitches."

Tosca said he was unaware who made the complaint, explaining: "I don't know if it was a team we played, I don't know if it was an MLB official or whatever, but it's no big deal with Justin."

Miller added: "Jim McKean said it was his recommendation that I wear sleeves. He said it was brought to his attention that it was a distraction. But right now we are just trying to figure out the situation and get an answer."

i have mixed feelings about this. i know they try to keep a very professional appearance with their uniforms, and tattoos could take away from that i guess. i think the complaint is ridiculous though, there is now way that they distract from the batter.

bright colored gloves are not alowed...if a pitcher is wearing jewlery the batter can request him take it off. A pitcher cannot wear white wristbands or white tape around his wrist ^^ I dont see why tatoos would be any different..im not surprised
